Jeff Mills: Growth

Dark futuristic music with no fear of the future...

’A turning point for Axis. At the time of this creation, the external surface of Dance Music was gaining more attention and acceptance than the core. Names and faces were beginning to pop up with no real justification for a logical path to explain their stature. The players of Dance Music were beginning to realize ’the game’ (of the Dance Music industry) and various ways on how it could be played. The concept of Growth stood for the shifting of people’s minds. The advancement of the Music based on people’s expectations. In 1994, the original ideas of Techno Music, being an organic form of communication, were beginning to be drowned out by the marching band kick drum of sensationalism. Growth was created as a call for concern. An alarm clock to remind people to wake up. An attempt to bring forth the notion that the Future could provide more than what we were doing then and that we have a history to manage. A foundation and structure that could support relevant ideas indefinitely. With its understated label design, I had hoped the the word and meaning of ’Growth’ would stand out to be considered in a challenging, yet positive way.’
